The emergency conditions that we face while driving can be many- flooded roadways, traffic jams, wrecks, a dead battery, and icy conditions are just few of them. Whether you are travelling to a nearby place or going for a long drive, you are normally aware of the circumstances that you can face and the ones that can keep you stranded in your car for long hours. So, spend some time to build an emergency kit, particularly designed for such type of unexpected circumstances. Here are some tips to build an emergency kit for your car.

5 Much Needed Items in Your Car’s Emergency Kit

A small blanket must be a part of your emergency kit as it gives comfort if you are staying in your car for few hours in cold weather. If you need to change the tire, a blanket would be needed to lie down and fix the tire easily. A blanket might be useful to wrap-up a sick or injured person or cover a wound. It can be rolled or folded to put it in the emergency kit and it doesn’t occupy much space in the kit.

Water is another essential thing you should keep in your kit as it provides hydration for you and your car. Keep filtered water or distilled water in your car’s emergency kit to make sure that you have enough of it to drink when you are stuck in your car for few hours. Water is also required for your car if the engine gets heated during a long journey. This might be the bulkiest thing in your kit, but it is very essential.

A few non-perishable food items might be needed to keep your energy levels in balance if you are stuck in traffic for a long time. Hard candy, beef jerky, granola bars, nuts and some dry fruits are quick snack items in case you are stuck in your vehicle for few hours. Don’t place any perishable foods and things that can melt like ice creams in the emergency kit. If you have specific dietary needs due to diabetes or any other medical problems, make sure to keep the essential foods in your car every time you go for a drive.

Ensure that you keep some basic first aid items in the emergency kit. Medical tape, bandages, antibiotic ointment, alcohol pads, gauze roll, and some basic medicines like antacids, and ibuprofen that can be useful at the time of an emergency on the road. You might also meet another driver on the road who needs first aid due to a small injury when changing a punctured tire. Keeping a first aid kit in your car is a much needed safety precaution for all the drivers.

A headlamp or flashlight might be very helpful if you are stuck on the road in the dark. It is impossible for you to change the tire or help another driver in the dark. You might not be able to use your car’s interior lights or headlights if the battery is dead. So, pack a high-quality small water-proof headlamp or flashlight in the emergency kit and some extra batteries if the flashlight batteries fail.

Some other items you should keep in your emergency kit are warning triangles that might help you to control the traffic for safety of other vehicles. Jumper cables help you to start your car to drive to a repair shop. Flat-repair sealant helps you to repair minor tire punctures.
